Welcome to the newly rebranded podcast! Since I only record these things when I don’t put a huge ton of pressure on myself to have, like, a them, I thought I’d embrace it and call the thing “Ripper’s Rambles”.
After nine months of rambling, I’ve decided to give the podcast a name. I owe a bit to high school-aged Stephen King (or maybe he was in college), who penned a column called “King’s Dump Truck”. So here you go! I will now ramble, all for you.
[ETA, I’m on the phone with my friend Cole, who–despite the fact that she has no method to play cassette tapes–still has her box of mix tapes in arm’s reach from her couch. Now that’s fuckin’ mix tape dedication. Black Flag or Pansy Division, anyone?]
I’m all about the thoughts this week (there’s an email to look forward to!).
Love the name – it fits these podcasts perfectly.
Mix tapes – I don’t remember ever making one, but I do remember recording songs from the radio – probably just so that I could have my very own version of Mickey (remember Toni Basil?), and the frustration of the dj speaking over the beginning or end of the song.
How’s the sleep tracking going?
I’ve never been a huge music person, though I’ve gone through phases when I’ve listened more than I do now. Now my iPod is always full of podcasts and that’s pretty much all I listen to (other that the Latin music that is always on at work which I barely notice anymore).
I loved Paula Abdul too! I never thought about being her, and I have zero dance skills, but I do remember listening on my walkman as I shovelled. Weirdly I liked shovelling snow as a kid. Now – not so much.
(obviously you aren’t the only rambler around here)
Nice name – as I have
mentioned before rambling is the best part of vlogs anyways xD
The video quality is
better than with the web cam, and more importantly (to me) the sound
is SO much better on this video. Is nice to hear what you say without
straining my ears.
Ahh mix tapes – so hard
to get right, stupid DJs talking over the songs. I had a double tape
recorder in my stereo, so I could record from tape to tape and create
the perfect mixes.
A thing I miss about tapes
and albums is how I knew what song came next. I sometimes still hear
a song from that time and it almost hurts when the song that used to
follow on my favorite mix tape does not follow. But at the same time
I do really like to randomize when I play my music today. Just one of
those miss/don’t miss kind of things.
I don’t listen as much to
as much music these days – often radio or looking stuff up on
YouTube. Oh how easy it is today. I remember have MTV running all day
in hopes of them showing one of my favorite videos. I would have
loved to be able to look it up myself and see it more than once.
