Origin Stories: Home Free

I don't know how spoilery this will get, but consider yourself warned: here there may be spoilers. So people who review Going Home almost always mention D and Teddy. Often by name. And they either love them or hate them. (Whoa, the hate. And I'm not complaining. I'm in awe.) When I considered D and Teddy's arc, I felt a pretty serious responsibility. I don't consider myself an activist writer. Certainly writing is a form of activism, and it's one I sometimes engage in, but I'd definitely sacrifice all higher intentions for a good line or a moment of delicious plot tension. Still. Since

Teddy assumed that at some point in the days leading up to the wedding…D would freak out. He wasn’t the only one who assumed that. “Hey, don’t worry, Teddy, I won’t let D leave you at the altar,” Maizy called, dragging D to her final fitting (D glowered murderously over

From Home Free: “I fainted. On our honeymoon. First time in, what, six months? After it got bad, when we came back.” Got bad. There’s a euphemism for you. Sure, it got bad. Home Free: Excerpt

Teddy Mariposa stood in his kitchen, unobtrusively eavesdropping on his guests. Well, technically only one of them was a guest. Everyone else was here for Family Dinner, which defaulted them to non-guest status. D took up the spot beside him at the counter. “This is like Family Dinner, Big Brother Edition,” she murmured. “Hey, Teddy, you’re with the CIA. Can’t you get someone to okay the wedding?” “Shh, I’m trying to hear this.” “Like a good spy.” He waited, because the very act of saying “shh” to D guaranteed she wasn’t actually going to stay quiet. “Anything so far?” Teddy

Okay, y'all, I sweated this puppy, but let me say this--I'm weirdly pleased with how it turned out. The issue is branding. The lovely cover artist who did the Going Home cover doesn't necessarily have time to do three more covers for me in the next month (I know, it's weird that people have lives other than designing for my verbose-ass muse!). The End: Home Free

A quick note to say...the first draft of Home Free is complete. I'm exhausted, my wrists are sore, and I'm not entirely certain I ended it in the right place. Oh, okay, if I'm being honest--I'm never sure about my happy endings. I have no faith in them at all. But I'll give this a good thorough revision next week or the week after, then send it out for beta. (Are YOU interested in beta reading a romance novel with a trans main character and a character with a history of brutal sexual violence? No, there aren't any fucking flashbacks, and no,

Excerpt: Home Free

Okay, I cannot keep looking at teary suicide podcast at the top of the feed. Hm. What do you guys want? How can I serve you? What's that? Oh. Excerpt? Well, sure. I'm sliding into the last 25,000 words of this book, let me find a little chunk for you. Processing...processing...processing... Ha. Did you read Going Home? (If not, why not? That sucker's free! Though one of the GR reviewers felt like it was very lecturey, which it undoubtedly is; readers of The Scientific Method will have already noted my enjoyment of a little therapy with my porn...) Going Home ends
